I am placing this page on the internet to advance the art of chainmail.

I have found a couple of new (to my knowledge) weaves I would like to share.

I would also appreciate any new weaves people have found.

I still get giddy making something new.

I will hold this true to the day I fall out of this universe, chainmail is art.  period.  Art has no boundries, except the artist.

My name is Kim Chatfield and I live in Colorado Springs, CO.  I have been making chainmail for roughly   two months now.  I have wound almost a mile of wire and produced (in my opinion) some beautiful work.

The main purpose of this page is to develop technique.  Several times I have found that joining fabric in one way doesn't quite work as well as others may.  I am not setting up a shop, however if someone wanted to buy something I probably wouldn't cry.

I feel I should mention this.  I love the earth more than anything.   (der)  I realize what it does to the planet to retrieve the metal I turn into mail.  I treasure the metal dearly for this, and refuse not to use a little wire, just because it's bent up.  A little waste is going to happen, but I attempt to cut that down to a minimum.  I'll try to get some pics up of  what I'm talking about, eventually.  a few bent rings with every spring.  On the same note, but to a different tune...

There is a gold mine near where I live.  They have HUGE trucks that can carry around 80 tons of rock.  They only get about 1 ounce of gold for every 80 to 100 tons of rock they process.  An ounce of gold is rather small, smaller diameter than a dime, and around the same thickness (maybe a tad bit barely more).  When I was in the pit the dug the rock from (reletively near the center) I looked across.  I thought to myself, that's not TOO big.  Then I saw the truck on the other side of the pit.  It looked like it was made by matchbox.  That was only half of the pit, too, they had other sections they were mining.  The walls of the pit we were in, were huge, I guess several hundred feet (like 6 or 8 or 9 [which adds to 23]).

Anyway, just be concious about what your actions are doing to your Mother.

I need to Thank my bro, Pete's Dad for lending me the equipment to take some quality photographs.   It made a difference!!!!!

...Duh!  Legalize Hemp!

Save the planet!

Save your life!   Or die!

Duh!

I need to Qualify that statement, I think.  When I say hemp, I refer to Cannabis Sativa with a THC(the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana) content of less than 1%.  That means you can't get high without smoking around a ton of it in around 15 minutes.  Even then, you'd probably end up with a headache.  I am advocating using hemp to power our cars, to supply our paper, to make our plastics, to weave our clothes, to feed us, to do the millions of things the plant is capable of doing.

Our species is quickly growing itself out of a planet.  Fairly soon we're going to need to feed over 10,000,000,000 people.  How many of those people are living in industrialized countries, countries which use cars, have fast food, work in office buildings?  All of the (dis?)comforts of modern civilization come with a price to the planet.  We drill for oil, and use that same oil to power the vessels the carry the oil.  All of the processes used to get oil to your gas tank, to house your soda while you drink it, to create all of those pieces of modern civilization we enjoy on a daily basis, puts huge amounts of pollutants into the atmosphere.  This problem is further compounded by the timber industry.

We use trees to build our houses, to print our reports, to make our books, to make silly labels for silly things.  All of these trees, while they were still performing the funtion Goddess (or God, is there really a difference?) intended for them, were removing those pollutants from the atmosphere, as well as supplying all of us Aerobs with the oxygen to keep going.   At the same time the trees are doing this, (they are multi-talented, donchaknow) they are taking water up from the soil, and transpiring it into the air.  This creates a slightly less arid, slightly cooler place to live.  Aren't trees nice for doing this?

So I, and many other educated individuals, suggest the use of hemp for all these things.  Next time it's on the ballot in your area, VOTE.  If it's not on the ballot, write Congress.

Don't sit for it anymore.

I hereby start the international sowing society.

Do a deed and plant your seeds!

Okay, here's what's up.   I read this article on the internet.  It was written by environmentalists, and had an idea, which could make the giant pole vault over the problems of pollution.   It was simply this:  Instead of harming the environment with our waste, heal it.  Every step you take, tiny particles rub off your shoes.  Those particles are toxic to the planet.  What if they were nutrients?  What if everything we produced could be turned into either environmental nutrients, or industrial nutrients?   TV, radio, car manufacturers make their products, and lease them to you.  When you want a newer/faster/better product, you send in the original, they send you a new one.   They reuse all the components.  The organization who wrote the article was a part in making an apolstery that was 100% biodegradable.  The water going into the plant was as clean as the water coming out.  The process involved in making the fabric acted as a filter.

Putting regulations on factories to make less pollution is silly.  Hitting this person in the head with a brick isn't very nice.  I'll hit him a little less hard.

http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/98oct/industry.htm is where youcan read it for yourself.  I advise you to do this.  I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Hail Eris or she'll bonk you
